Women & Smoking
We all know that smoking causes a series of harmful effects on our body. If you are a smoker, then you might fall prey to various types of cancers, which includes lung, oral, kidney pancreatic and even colon cancer. In some the chances of blood cancer is also seen because of smoking. Women are more prone to these harmful effects than men are and along with the normal health hazards that the male smoking population faces, women face an even greater threat.
Respiratory diseases are quite common among women who smoke regularly. It is one of the root causes for cardiovascular diseases since the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood decreases tremendously and the heart has to work harder to maintain the high requirement of oxygen for the body. Women using birth-control pills and facing post-menopausal period have the highest chances of falling prey to the health hazards, especially, the cardiovascular issues if they smoke regularly.
If one looks at the statistics it will be quite clear that these are well-established facts that smoking is the main cause for a number pf health complications in the modern world. Women are facing a huge risk of multiple heath issues as the Nicotine, the main stimulant that causes the excitement and addiction of cigarette, induces many types of hormonal changes in women, which causes serious health complications and increases the risk of fatal diseases. Since women have a slower metabolic rate than men do, the effects of Nicotine tends to stay in a women for a longer period in comparison to men.
During pregnancy and childbirth, smoking can cause the worst health complications in women and affect both the mother and the child. Women who smoke during pregnancy increase the risk of prenatal deaths and premature childbirths resulting in underdeveloped babies or deformed babies. Experiments prove that if the mother of a newborn baby smokes then the baby too may receive the ill effects of Nicotine since the baby receives considerable doses of Nicotine through passive smoking and through the breast milk of the mother. This hampers the natural growth of the baby and may even cause premature death if the mother is a heavy smoker.
Breast cancer is one of the biggest threats that women who smoke regularly faces in the modern times. Today you are going to find thousands of women in health clinics for treatment of breast cancer. Most of the patients, nearly 99% of them have contracted this disease due to their smoking habits. Moreover, smoking can cause sudden illness and heart diseases in women smoking when under the influence of oral contraceptive pills and other birth control pills. Stroke and heart attack are common ailments that women face in such condition.
Conceiving power and fertility in women decreases due to smoking. The Nicotine and other harmful chemicals increases infertility in women to great extent and research proves that women who do not smoke have greater chances of conceiving than their smoker counterparts.
Women undergoing treatments for depression and taking antidepressants have high risks of health complications if they smoke because the anti depressant medicines tend to lower the excitement levels in a person whereas Nicotine, which is present in tobacco, is a stimulant and increases the excitement levels in the body. It is thus better for women to avoid smoking to ensure a healthy and safe life.
